Veterans and healthcare providers in Greenville recently gathered for a special ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of a new Labyrinth. Designed as a sanctuary for reflection and mindfulness, the winding pathway offers a dedicated space where Veterans, their families, and clinic staff can step away from the hustle of daily life to focus on their mental and emotional well-being. The event was attended by several key figures, including Assistant Director Sarah Fredrickson and members of the Whole Health Team.
During the festivities, Sharon Lipp shared a poignant reading of the poem A Labyrinth, which helped set the tone for the facility’s intended purpose. Unlike traditional mazes that challenge visitors with puzzles and dead ends, this labyrinth features a single, continuous path that leads directly to the center and back out again. This design is intentional, removing the stress of getting lost and instead encouraging walkers to slow their pace, breathe deeply, and remain fully present in each moment.
The project represents a broader effort by the Greenville VA Health Care Center to integrate holistic care into its service model. By providing an outdoor environment specifically tailored for contemplation, the center aims to support the mind, body, and spirit of those who have served. It is envisioned as more than just a garden feature; it is a tool for recovery and personal growth within the framework of a comprehensive health journey.
The afternoon concluded on a spiritual note with a blessing delivered by Chaplain Nicole Tota, who dedicated the grounds as a permanent site for healing and inner peace. Now officially open to all patients and employees, the Labyrinth stands as a physical reminder of the community’s commitment to helping Veterans reconnect with themselves while finding solace in nature.
